El objetivo del libro es analizar el mito en la comunidad Emberá. Para su consecución, el autor hace una aproximación epistemológica al concepto de mito, entendiéndolo como el lugar de las imágenes arquetípicas, a partir de las teorías de la Escuela de Praga y el Círculo de Eranos, y del mito del agua, que pertenece a las Historias de Principio de la comunidad mencionada. El análisis propuesto se encamina a la identificación de la matriz arquetípica que se configura en la construcción que hace del mito esta comunidad indígena colombiana.
