Esta excelente biografía del célebre químico francés está dirigida especialmente a los lectores jóvenes y presenta los logros más significativos de este importante científico. Él realizó investigaciones decisivas sobre la fermentación y las bacterias, sostuvo que los gérmenes eran los responsables de las infecciones y desarrolló el proceso de la pasteurización, de enorme importancia para la economía y la salud pública. Además, descubrió las vacunas contra el ántrax y la rabia. También fue el primer director del Instituto Pasteur, fundado en 1888 para investigar los virus y las enfermedades contagiosas. Sin duda, resulta muy significativo que el virus del SIDA haya sido aislado e identificado por primera vez por un investigador del Instituto Pasteur. Con una excelente presentación y textos que destacan por su claridad, el libro también incluye fotografías históricas del gran científico francés.
