Hay que advertir que estos términos pueden significar dos cosas: o bien una forma musical de medida más o menos libre, con el bajo estático y notas repetidas en la voz, o bien un estilo de canto que implica entonar el texto de un modo enfático y declamatorio, aunque la música sea firmemente medida.
