Sade ocupa un lugar ambivalente entre los protagonistas de la Francia ilustrada, muestra de modernidad y tradición. Mediante tres enfoques se analiza su obra y persona: el reflejo del nuevo discurso sexual burgués, ilustrado y fiel en el matrimonio, antagónico al dispendioso del Antiguo Régimen; el análisis de cómo Sade desarrolla y enriquece el discurso ilustrado, aportando su peculiar antropología; y su figura en el contexto del derecho, el tratamiento jurídico y político de sus prácticas libertinas.

Eamonn Wall arrived in the United States in the 1980s as part of a wave of young, educated immigrants who became known as the "New Irish."
